Heart for Africa Swaziland
Each purchase provides for children of the Heart for Africa orphanage and creates stable employment for women in a country with 70% unemployment. Each piece is handmade, beautiful, and makes a lasting impact.
Founded in 2006, Heart for Africa is a faith-based humanitarian organization focused on bringing HOPE to the tiny Kingdom of eSwatini. Project Canaan is a 2,500 acre farm and land development initiative that is also home to nearly 200 orphans, a school, medical clinic and various businesses that provide sustainable revenue for the project.
The products and jewelry made by the Khutsala Artisans are not only a means to spreading beautiful jewelry and ornaments, but also provide a much-needed source of income for the mission and for the artisans. Project Canaan employs around 280 people and more than 100 of them work at Khutsala Artisans.
All profits from the jewelry sales help to support the orphans living at Project Canaan and the artisans who make the jewelry, ornaments, and beaded animals. Each worker at Khutsala Artisans supports about 13 people on average in their home, (the unemployment in the country is 70%). As a result, their children and those children living at Project Canaan have food, shelter and a future. The goal of the mission is to become completely self-sustaining through these types of businesses and the farm operations.
Your purchase of Khutsala Artisan goods helps care for 190+ orphaned and abandoned babies living on Project Canaan in eSwatini, Africa. Each purchase also provides valuable employment opportunities to local Swazis who are then able to provide for their families.
According to the CDC, eSwatini has the world’s highest estimated prevalence rate of HIV-infected adults (26% of people aged 15-49). AIDS has ravaged this country, resulting in more than 500,000 orphans and vulnerable children. With your purchase of items from Khutsala Artisans and thanks to Project Canaan, we can share not hope, food, and love with children in desperate need.
