Burundi Refugee Kitwaros – Uru Design

These funky but sturdy containers will hold all your possessions while adding character to your room. Their classic cylinder shape comes with a detachable lid to keep things tidy. This design has three lines of grass stripes and a touch of blue to symbolize the refugee camp in which it was made.

The Burundi Refugee Collection has been a part of WomenCraft Social Enterprise since 2017. The line is created by over 50 Burundian refugee artisans in the Mtendeli Camp in Northwest Tanzania. Sacks in which refugees receive their monthly food rations are recycled and woven into grasses harvested in and around the camp. Through WomenCraft, refugee artisans gain access to premium international markets, generating reliable incomes which strengthen refugee resilience and restore their sense of self-determination.
